About: Youth for Iowa is a state-wide summer employment program. It provides Iowa youth with an opportunity to learn the skills needed for employment. They will develop and practice work readiness skills during summer. This innovative program will offer many youth the chance to earn their first paycheck and begin to develop skills that will last a lifetime. The Youth for Iowa program is an extension of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth program. As part of that program, youth receive an array of services.
Services: The goal of Youth for Iowa will be to increase the work readiness skills of participating youth by putting them in a work experience environment.

Eligibility: Youth for Iowa eligibility requirements are the same as for the WIA Youth program, with the exception that the program allows individuals up to the age of 24. Priority of service is given for veterans and eligible spouses. To be eligible to participate in Youth for Iowa, you must meet all five criteria listed below:
- Not less than age 14 or more than age 24;
- A low-income individual; AND
- An individual who is one or more of the following; AND
- Deficient in basic literacy skills (has English reading, writing, or computing skills at or below the eighth grade level);
- A school dropout (this does include individuals enrolled in an alternative school);
- Homeless, a runaway, or a foster child;
- Pregnant or parenting;
- An offender;
- An individual who requires additional assistance to complete an education program, or to secure and hold employment,
- NOTE: The criteria for this category must relate to participant characteristics or needs and not financial need, since family income is already a required criterion.
- Registered with the selective service, if applicable; AND
- A citizen or national of the United States, a lawfully admitted permanent resident alien, a lawfully admitted refugee or parolee or an individual authorized by the Attorney General to work in the United States.
